TO THE FUTURE
Have you ever thought of time traveling? Trying to know about your future? What will happen next? How would you look when you become old? I'm pretty sure you have. And you also might have thought that it would be practically impossible. But there was a man who once traveled through time. He is Sergei Krikalev, was a Russian astronaut, has a record of 803.371 days spent in space. He actually traveled through time to his future by 0.02 seconds. Here, what he experienced is not time traveling but time dilation.
TIME DILATION
There are many ways to explain time dilation. It can be said as the difference between the time in two clocks, each having their individual velocity or the difference between Gravitational potential between their locations. To be put in simple words, time dilation is the process of slowing down the clocks because of relative velocity.
For people moving relative to each other time must go at different rates. Sergei Krikalev also experienced the same, while he was traveling through space at 28,000 km per hour, time on his watch slowed down by 0.02 seconds relative to an observer on earth. This explains that moving faster through space lags time. It won't appear to be a big difference, but when we move with a speed nearly equal to the speed of light, we might also age slowly concerning the man on earth.
But we cannot travel at the speed of light. If we move with the speed of light the mass of our body increases to infinity. This is because when we attain the speed of light our energy increases to infinity, our kinetic energy also increases to infinity. But an object can never have infinite energy, So it is practically impossible.
GRAVITATIONAL TIME DILATION
The clock runs slow at the point where the gravitational potential is low compared to the points where the gravitational potential is high. which means the clock near a heavy body tick slower than a clock which is far from a heavier body. From the earth, with an increase of height, the time runs faster. It might be comparatively low.
DEPICTION
This concept of time dilation was depicted in famous movies like Interstellar, Avengers: Endgame, Planet of the Apes. Each movie depicted it in their own way. In the movie Interstellar there is a planet near a black hole, one hour on the surface of that planet is equal to seven years on the Earth because of time dilation. If you haven't watched any of those movies then give them a try. I think now you know how to travel through time. Maybe one-day if anyone invents a machine which can travel at the speed of light then they can travel through time and can tell the lost stories of the previous civilization.
" The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once."
